Choral scholarship applications are now open as Northampton Philharmonic Choir launches the second year of its Rosemary Harrison Choral Scholarship programme, starting in September 2026.

The Northampton-based choir is offering two places for singers aged 18 to 25, giving young vocalists the chance to develop their musicianship, gain performance experience and expand their repertoire over a full academic year.

The programme is designed for aspiring professional singers who want to strengthen their choral skills in a supportive and ambitious environment. Rehearsals take place weekly during term time at St Michael’s Church in Northampton.

Under the direction of Thomas Moore, Northampton Philharmonic Choir has built a strong local reputation for high-quality performances. As a result, successful applicants will become part of a growing ensemble that regularly performs major choral works.

What the scholarship offers

Successful candidates will take part in a full season of rehearsals and performances. In addition, the choir expects scholars to play an active role in its wider activities.

Key commitments include:

  • Attending at least 80% of weekly rehearsals
  • Performing in all concerts and events, including “Come & Sing” days
  • Supporting the choir’s ongoing work and community activity

Applicants should be confident sight-readers with strong vocal technique and a clear enthusiasm for choral music and teamwork.

Benefits for young singers

The scholarship offers a range of practical and professional benefits, including:

  • An annual stipend of £750, paid in instalments across the year
  • Free music hire for the season
  • Two complimentary tickets for each concert
  • Opportunities for occasional solo performances, depending on repertoire

These benefits aim to support early-career singers while giving them valuable stage experience.
