Get ready for a night of lights, music and more — because Northampton’s much-loved Fireworks Spectacular is back at the Racecourse on Saturday 1 November, and it’s all free.

The annual event, organised by Northampton Town Council, draws thousands every year, and this one promises to be the biggest and brightest yet. Festivities kick off at 4pm with live entertainment, family activities and food stalls, before the jaw-dropping pyro-musical fireworks finale at 6pm lights up the sky.

Music, fire and a little bit of history

BBC Radio Northampton’s very own Justin Dealey will host the live stage, warming up the crowd and introducing acts including party favourites Funk Odessey at 4.30pm. Just before the fireworks begin, the Live Performers will deliver a daring Fire and Pyro routine at 5.45pm — setting the stage (literally) for the grand finale.

Adding to the atmosphere, giant screens will showcase The Gunpowder Plot short film, created by the Northampton Film Festival, and a digital retelling of the Great Fire of Northampton — marking 350 years since the blaze that reshaped the town. Both will be available afterwards via the Explore Northampton app.

Safety, fun and community spirit

This year also sees the introduction of free neon wristbands for children. Parents can write their contact details on them, making it easier for event staff to quickly reunite families if kids get separated.

Cllr Keith Holland-Delamere, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said: “This is one of our biggest events of the year and we can’t wait to welcome everyone along. Every year we like to offer something a bit different, and this year is no exception, with even bigger and brighter fireworks.”

Of course, no family night out is complete without the extras — from funfair rides and face painting to the Catering Village serving up everything from warming comfort food to sweet treats. Charity partner Help for Heroes will also be there with a stall.

Or, as Justin Dealey puts it: “There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a Northampton crowd on fireworks night. It’ll be loud, just like me — and joyful, just like BBC local radio.”
