Where to go ice skating this Christmas

Posted 5th November 2024

Get your skates on and go glide in style with a trip to Whilton Locks Skating Rink.

“It’s bigger, better and icy-er than ever before,” they promise, “Our real ice rink can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. We have a team of trained ice stewards who ensure that our rink is safe and well maintained at all times.”

If you are less Torvill and Dean and more terrible on the ice, don’t worry –you can book a push-along penguin, and there are whales and seals that you can sit on, making ice stars out of us all!

If you are looking to make a really special Christmas memory, want to entertain colleagues, or maybe celebrate a special anniversary, why not consider hiring the rink exclusively?

Whilton really is catering for all, and its Parent and Toddler ice skate is part of the offering.
These events are suitable for little folks aged four and under, and it is advisable to have one adult per child.
You can choose to pull on the traditional skates or twin bladed for added stability, and you can even take pushchairs onto the ice during these sessions!

SEN-sations Skating is an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy all the fun of the skate, but with low levels of music and minimal queuing, and when you book online you can make staff aware of any ‘do’s and don’ts’ so that your children feel at ease and relaxed during their time on site.
A brilliant initiative!

Don’t forget that Northampton’s Christmas in Becket’s Park event (Dec 7) also gives you the chance to hit the ice with a magical rink in place as part of the day.

In Milton Keynes, Willen on Ice returns
(Nov 7- Jan 5), and in 2024 it is promising ‘double the size and quadruple the fun!’
Thousands of twinkling lights, snow-covered spruces and the 800sqm real ice-skating rink will entice those steady on their feet onto the cold stuff.

If slip-sliding isn’t your way, the fairground will be a safe bet for some seasonal fun. Feeling peckish? Festive street foods will stave off hunger pangs, and the Apres Ski Par will serve winter warmers. Pumpkin spice for us, thanks.

Skate your way to Woburn Sands Emporium and glide your way to a fun day. Now open, the emporium – on Newport Road, Woburn Sands – delivers day time sessions with additional evening events.

Participants get skate hire and 45 minutes of skating time included in the ticket price, and if you are feeling a bit wibbly wobbly
(we made a show of ourselves in Central Park one time!), skating aids are available to hire.
SEN and toddler sessions – where under 4s go free – will both offer reduced rink capacity.
Forget the spice of life, this month it’s all about the ice of life!
