Step Back in Time for a Night of Swing, Sparkle and 1940s Glamour

Posted 11th August 2025

If you’ve ever wished you could slip into a time machine and waltz right into the golden age of swing, here’s your chance — and all without leaving Northampton. This autumn, the Cynthia Spencer Hospice invites you to dust off your dancing shoes, don your finest vintage threads, and join them for the Big Band Bash, a celebration of the glitz, glamour and toe-tapping joy of the 1940s.

A night made for dancing
On Saturday 15th November, the Mercure Hotel Northampton will be transformed into a scene straight from a wartime dance hall. The star attraction? Jazz Colossus — a jaw-dropping 20-piece band founded by composer and bandleader Miles Hancock, known for their unique arrangements and irresistible swing rhythms. Whether you’re a jive expert or just there to sway along, you’ll be in good company.

From the moment you arrive, the vintage magic begins. You’ll be greeted with a classic 1940s welcome drink (think elegance in a glass) before sitting down to a three-course dinner inspired by wartime favourites — with a little modern polish, of course.

More than just a party
Yes, there will be live music. Yes, there will be dancing. And yes, there will be plenty of reasons to raise a glass. But this night is also about something bigger: supporting the incredible work of Cynthia Spencer Hospice. From inpatient care to Hospice@Home visits, they provide comfort, dignity and support for people living with life-limiting illnesses across Northamptonshire — and for the families who love them.

The evening will also feature a raffle and auction with prizes you’ll want to battle over, plus a vintage-style photobooth to capture your best swing-era smiles.

Early bird gets the jive
Tickets are £65 for the first 50 lucky early birds, then £70 thereafter (or £630 for a table of ten — because everything’s more fun with friends). For businesses, there’s also the option to step into the spotlight as a sponsor, with packages starting at £500 — a meaningful way to support local care while putting your brand centre stage.

Community and Events Fundraiser Lead Michelle Morris sums it up perfectly:

“Join us for this fabulous fundraiser combining incredible live music with beautiful vintage glamour. It’s a meaningful way to give back to the local community while celebrating heritage and heart.”

So, whether you’re coming for the swing, the sparkle or the cause itself, one thing’s certain: you’ll leave with your feet tapping, your heart full, and maybe a few glittering memories tucked under your arm.
