There’s something about Northamptonshire that makes it stand out—not just the rolling fields and bustling market towns, but the way people pull together when times get tough. And right now, that community spirit is shining brightly as the Poverty Hurts fundraising appeal edges closer to its £20,000 milestone.
Launched at the start of summer by Northamptonshire Community Foundation, the appeal has one simple goal: to help local people struggling with poverty and financial hardship. So far, it has raised £19,491—money that’s already making a real difference.
Rachel McGrath, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, summed it up with warmth and urgency:
“Nobody should be struggling to cover their basic needs or skipping meals so that their children can eat. And yet this is a reality for too many Northamptonshire residents. If you can, please do consider donating and helping our neighbours in crisis.”
Local businesses step up
One business that’s already taken up the call is AVON, showing their support with a generous donation. Sam Boniface, AVON’s UK Communications Lead, explained why:
“AVON is proud to support the Poverty Hurts Appeal, which plays a vital role in tackling hardship across Northamptonshire. We’re particularly committed to helping women and girls who are disproportionately affected by poverty, and this appeal directly supports local projects making a real difference to their lives.”
It’s a reminder that when local companies step in, the ripple effect can be huge—helping not just individuals, but entire families and communities.
A county-wide effort
From fuel poverty support to food banks, debt advice, mental health services, and homelessness charities, every penny raised is being put straight into urgent local grants.
Northamptonshire’s Lord-Lieutenant, James Saunders Watson, has also urged more residents to play their part:
“The need is growing, and we must act now. If everyone gave just £1, we would have the power to create life-changing support for families across our county.”
How you can help
The beauty of this appeal is that everyone can chip in—whether it’s a one-off donation, a workplace fundraiser, or simply spreading the word.
