Market Square renovation: Steve Reid and the Artisan Collective’s Local Flavours
Posted 7th November 2024The newly refurbished Market Square has been a huge hit since its launch weekend. The new square sees a vibrant community of artisan businesses offering unique, handcrafted goods.
Among them is Steve Reid, founder of Friars Farm, who has been crafting local chutneys and preserves for over a decade. At the Artisan Collective Pod, Friars Farm joins forces with Northampton Cheese Co. and Northampton Charcuterie Co. to bring a taste of Northamptonshire’s best.
We spoke to Steve to hear his thoughts on the new Market Square, the importance of local collaborations, and why shoppers won’t want to miss what they have to offer
What’s your business and how long have you been trading?
I’m Steve Reid, and we’ve been running Friars Farm for about 13 years now. Here at the Artisan Collective pod, we bring together a group of local food specialists. My businesses include a collective of Northampton Cheese Co., Northampton Charcuterie Co., and Friars Farm chutneys and preserves. It’s a community of artisans under one roof, offering unique local flavours.
What are your thoughts on the new Market Square?
It’s fantastic! The Market Square has really needed a refresh for a long time, and this change was overdue. It’s bright, modern, and finally feels like it’s stepped into the 21st century. The launch weekend showed just how great the space is for hosting events, drawing in crowds, and revitalising the area.
How do you think the new Market Square has helped traders and shops?
The opening weekend was incredibly busy, bringing in new faces and energy. There’s still plenty of room for growth and development, but it’s a great start. I’m excited to see how it continues to evolve and benefit local traders.
Who would you like to collaborate with?
We’ve already collaborated with so many local businesses! We’re not competitive; we love working with companies like Phipps and Jeyes. Our stall represents that spirit – everything here is local, and businesses that we have partnered with – that’s what we’re all about.
Why should people come and see you?
A lot of what we offer here can’t be found anywhere else. Just take a look – we’ve got items that have even been featured on TV! These are handcrafted, local artisan products, not the usual supermarket fare. If you’re looking for something special, you’ll find it here.
