Cynthia Spencer Hospice Confirms Cancellation of Cycle4Cynthia 2024

Cynthia Spencer Hospice has announced that its flagship fundraising event, Cycle4Cynthia, which was cancelled yesterday due to adverse weather conditions, will not be rescheduled this year.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the Northamptonshire charity said:

“Regrettably, we were forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 Cycle4Cynthia event yesterday. Given the considerable effort required to organise the event, the necessary permissions from local authorities, and the onset of winter weather, rescheduling this year is not feasible.

“This was not a decision we took lightly. In 21 years, we have never had to cancel, but the heavy rain, flooding along the route and the risk posed by thunder and lightning made it unsafe to proceed.

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming community support over the past 24 hours and sincerely apologise to our cyclists and supporters.

“Participants who still wish to complete the challenge at their own convenience can do so by using the downloadable GPX routes available on our website or by following their own routes. We encourage those who take part to share their achievements with us by sending photos, so we can celebrate their efforts online and send out participation medals.

“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our corporate sponsors – Chelton Brown, Wollaston BMW, EMW Law, Haddonstone, Piroto, McManus, HCR Hewitson, Whites of Earls Barton and Tranex Communications – for their ongoing support.

“As Cycle4Cynthia is our largest fundraising event, the cancellation will have a significant financial impact on the hospice. Already facing pressures from the cost-of-living crisis, the loss of this event could cost us an additional £40,000, which will inevitably affect the care we are able to provide to our patients.
