Celebrate national children’s day & take part in the 5k may challenge for local children’s charity
Posted 10th May 2021With National Children’s Day approaching (Sunday 16th May), a Milton Keynes children’s charity is urging people to walk, run, cycle, swim or roll 5km to raise funds to support vulnerable children in our region.
St. Francis’ Children’s Society (SFCS) are taking part in the 5k May Challenge, which is a national campaign led by charity donation platform Just Giving and Run For Heroes, a charity which raised over £7 million for NHS Charities during the first national lockdown in 2020.
The 5k May Challenge aims to make fundraising events more inclusive and accessible. Everyone can get involved, regardless of age or physical ability, and experience that great sense of achievement that comes from completing a challenge AND raising funds for a good cause.
Anju Chadha-McLean, Fundraiser at SFCS says: “We believe every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable and loving family. National Children’s Day is just one day in the year that focuses on the importance of ensuring children have a healthy childhood, and that their rights and freedoms are protected so that they can become happy, caring and connected adults. We support children all year round and offer lifelong support to help them reach their full potential. You can help us to help them simply by taking part in the 5K May challenge and raising funds to support our work.”
It’s so easy to take part. SFCS are simply asking people to commit to completing 5km of movement at any time during the month of May. You can run, roll, walk, cycle or even swim if you want to. It’s just about getting out and feeling good while doing it.
You can do your 5k anywhere, anytime, with anyone. You could even split your 5k down into five 1k sections to be completed throughout the month – ideal if you’re taking part with young children, have disabilities or are in a wheelchair. This really is an event for everyone.
Once you’ve completed your challenge, you simply donate £5 to SFCS via their special 5k May fundraising page and nominate 5 of your friends to do the same. Taking these small, easy steps will make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable children across our region – visit https://www.sfcs.org.uk/raise-funds-with-5k-may/ to find out more.
