Local hospice launches National Three Peaks Challenge fundraiser

Ambitious adventurers looking for a new challenge to kick off the new year can sign up to take on the three highest mountains in the UK in aid of a local hospice. Northampton-based Cynthia Spencer Hospice has launched its National Three Peaks Challenge fundraiser for 2024 and is looking to recruit dedicated trekkers for the peak trilogy. The aim is to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales one after the other and within 30 hours between 31st August and 2nd September. Michelle Leighton, Community and Events Fundraiser Lead for Cynthia Spencer Hospice, completed the challenge in 2023 with a group of Cynthia Spencer fundraisers. Join Saints and Panto Stars for Northampton’s Christmas Lights Switch On

Saints rugby and panto stars will join Northampton Town Council for a stocking-stuffed line up of free festive fun at the Northampton Christmas Lights Switch On event in Becket’s Park, on Saturday, 25th November. Purpose-built grotto to be Santa’s home for town centre Christmas campaign

Construction students at Northampton College have got themselves on the nice list this Christmas by designing a purpose-built grotto for Santa. The grotto is taking pride of place in Grosvenor Shopping Northampton as part of the town centre’s festive celebrations, and will be home to Santa in the build-up to Christmas. Level Three carpentry students were involved in the design and build of the grotto, having been commissioned by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) to create the festive centrepiece. More than 1,000 families are expected to visit the grotto this Christmas. Remembrance Sunday to be marked in Northampton with military parade and service

Remembrance Sunday will be marked in Northampton with a large military parade and church service in the town centre on 12th November. The parade, arranged by Northampton Town Council and the Royal British Legion, is set to start from Derngate at 9.30am, then follow a route onto St Giles’ Square, along Wood Hill and down Mercers Row, pausing for the Service of Remembrance at All Saints’ Church, between 10 and 10.45am. Following the service, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 10.45am in the Town and County War Memorial garden behind the church on Wood Hill, with the playing of the Last Post and a two-minute silence observed at 11am. The memorial garden will remain open for the public to lay wreaths and pay their respects. Festive magic confirmed by Chester House Estate

Mowerman magic is returning to Chester House Estate this Christmas – with up to 70 tractors setting off from the estate in December in aid of charity. This festive highlight, back after wowing the crowds last year, will see the decorated tractors travel around and through the Estate on Sunday, 17th December. The tractors, which will arrive at Chester House Estate between 10am and 2pm, will spend several hours revving up a Christmas spirit at the Irchester estate, and then set off on a route around nearby towns and villages, dropping off parcels of food for Irthlingborough Food Bank on route. Shoppers are being urged to ‘Win Your Christmas’ by taking part in a Northampton town centre Golden Ticket giveaway.
