Vicky – the force behind VixPix Photography

Hi Vicky! Tell us a bit about VixPix Photography…

VixPix Photography is celebrating its first anniversary as a full-time business this June! I specialise in photographing children, families, babies, and maternity sessions. I also visit playgroups and baby groups for mini shoots and work with nurseries and schools. While I’m based in Northamptonshire, I also cover areas like Bedford, Milton Keynes, and Warwickshire.

What initially sparked your interest in photography, and how did you begin your journey?

My interest in photography began during my maternity leave when I needed a creative outlet. I’ve always had a creative background, and I started taking photos of my son, styling them up to look really cute. It began as a hobby, doing cake smashes and taking photos of friends’ babies. Initially, it was a side hustle, but after being made redundant last year, I decided to pursue it full-time.

I have a home studio where I can do mini shoots and family sessions. It’s important to me to make photography affordable, so I offer payment plans. My home studio is cosy and friendly, which helps put people at ease, especially autistic children. My relaxed style creates a calming atmosphere.

What do you love most about being a photographer?

I love the joy and fun that comes with photographing children, especially during cake smashes. The cheeky and fun moments I capture in schools and nurseries are priceless. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Coming from a stressful corporate job as an art director, I appreciate the creative freedom photography gives me. I can spend time on creative projects without worrying about deadlines, which helps keep me calm. My clients often tell me that the experience is calming for them as well.

You’ve just launched maternity shoots. Tell us about those…

Maternity shoots have been a long time in the making. When I decided to go full-time, I planned to include maternity photography. Over the past year, I’ve taken several training courses to perfect my skills. There’s a lot to consider, from backdrops to lighting. I was fortunate to have a pregnant friend who allowed me to practice my ideas. I’m thrilled with how the photos have turned out so far.

Can you share any exciting upcoming projects or future plans?

I’m excited to celebrate VixPix’s first birthday! I regularly offer mini shoots for occasions like Christmas, Mother’s Day, and spring. This time, I’m planning something different—a collaboration with another local business. I can’t reveal too much yet, but it’s going to be unique and exciting!
