Fans of The Beautiful South are in for a night of nostalgia, warmth and proper sing-along moments as THE SOUTH head to Northampton’s Roadmender on Friday 5 December 2025.
The South continue the legacy of one of the UK’s most beloved pop bands, performing the songs that defined an era — from A Little Time and Perfect 10 to Rotterdam, Song For Whoever, Old Red Eyes Is Back and Don’t Marry Her. These are tracks that shaped an 18-year career stretching back to 1989, and they remain as loved today as ever.
The band itself is a powerhouse 9-piece, featuring former members of The Beautiful South including vocalist Alison Wheeler and sax player-turned-frontman Gaz Birtles. Following the departure of original singer Dave Hemingway in 2016, Gaz stepped up to share lead vocals with Alison, bringing his own distinctive style to the stage. They’re now joined by Gareth John, whose vocals round out the group’s vibrant three-singer line-up.
For the past 15 years, The South have played to crowds across the UK, breathing new life into the full arrangements and unmistakable sound of these treasured songs — with a few of their own originals woven in for good measure.
Band line-up:
Alison Wheeler (Vocals), Gaz Birtles (Vocals), Phil Barton (Guitars), Steve Nutter (Bass), Dave Anderson (Drums), Karl Brown (Percussion), Gareth John (Trumpet/Vocals), Su Robinson (Sax), Andy Price (Keyboards).
