Wildlife presenter, ecologist and author Philippa Forrester will be visiting Stanwick Lakes next week for a special evening talk celebrating wetland wildlife and the vital role local nature reserves play on a global stage.
Taking place on Tuesday 24th March 2026, this newly formatted evening event will welcome guests from 6pm, with the talk beginning at 7pm.
Best known for her work with the BBC’s Natural History Unit, Philippa will share insights drawn from decades of experience in wildlife broadcasting and conservation. Her talk, “Why is Stanwick Lakes so important for wetland wildlife?”, will explore the delicate balance of species and habitats, and why places like Stanwick Lakes matter far beyond their immediate surroundings.
Among the wildlife close to her heart are otters, one of the reserve’s most cherished and elusive residents, and a species that perfectly captures the magic of the wetlands visitors come to enjoy.
The evening will also include a live Q&A session, offering attendees the chance to ask Philippa their own questions, followed by a book signing of her latest release, Wild Woman (Bloomsbury). The book blends Philippa’s personal journey with stories of inspiring women in conservation, from pioneering botanists to modern-day environmental champions.
Having recently returned to England after time spent living and working abroad, Philippa has spoken about rediscovering a deep appreciation for the British countryside, making this talk feel especially timely.
For Stanwick Lakes, a conservation charity managed by the Rockingham Forest Trust, the event is a rare and exciting opportunity.
“We’re really proud to be hosting Philippa,” said Trust Director Billie Passchier. “Events like this don’t come round often for a charity of our size, and we hope the local community will come along and be part of it.”
Tickets are priced at £15, with all proceeds supporting the charity’s ongoing conservation and wildlife work at the reserve.
