Picture this: the lights go down at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate. A mirror ball starts to spin. The opening bars of an 80s anthem ripple through the theatre. And suddenly, you’re not in 2026 anymore — you’re back in 1985, singing your heart out and wondering why you ever stopped wearing sequins on a Friday night.
Good news. You don’t have to.
Radio legend Gary Davies is heading to Northampton on Friday 29th May 2026 with his biggest UK tour yet — the gloriously glittery ‘Disco for Grown Ups’ 80s Party. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Only bigger. Louder. And with considerably better knees than the average school disco.
A Night for the Proper Party People
Gary Davies — the voice behind BBC Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s (you know the one — “Woo!”) — has teamed up with Discos for Grown Ups to deliver a high-energy, no-holds-barred celebration of the decade that gave us shoulder pads, synths and some of the catchiest tunes ever recorded.
We’re talking wall-to-wall anthems from Wham, Erasure, ABBA, Whitney, A-ha, Queen, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Human League, Madonna, Eurythmics, Soft Cell… and many more. Basically, if it once blasted out of a cassette player while you practised dance routines in your bedroom, it’s probably on the playlist.
And this isn’t just a polite little bop in your seat.
Expect dancers. Confetti showers. Lights. Lasers. Mirror balls. The lot. It’s a full-throttle, floor-filling, hands-in-the-air kind of night — the sort where you say, “I’ll just stay for one more,” and suddenly it’s the encore.
Northampton, It’s Time to Dress Up
Let’s be clear: 80s dress-up is very much encouraged.
So dust off the shoulder pads. Tease that hair. Dig out the old Wham or Frankie T-shirt lurking at the back of the wardrobe (or recreate the magic with a cheeky trip to the shops). This is your excuse to go big. In fact, the bigger the better.
Because this isn’t about reliving your youth in a wistful, misty-eyed way. It’s about grabbing your friends, hitting the dancefloor and belting out every word like you never forgot them (you didn’t, by the way — they’re all still in there).
Part of a Huge UK Tour
The Northampton date is part of Gary Davies’ Spring 2026 UK tour, which will see him bring the party to cities including Newcastle, Leeds, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Bradford.
But on Friday 29th May, it’s Northampton’s turn.
Royal & Derngate will be transformed into a full-blown 80s playground — a one-night-only time machine where the only rule is to dance like nobody’s watching (even though, let’s be honest, everyone is — and they’re loving it).
Your Cue to Book
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to plan a proper night out — this is it.
Round up your mates. Book the tickets. Sort the outfits. And prepare for what’s being billed as your BEST 80s party night out… ever.
Go on. You know you want to.
