Northampton Philharmonic Choir is inviting singers from across Northamptonshire to take part in an open NPC Come & Sing event celebrating Karl Jenkins’ powerful choral work The Armed Man.
The one-day event takes place on Saturday 24 January at St Michael’s & All Angels Church, Perry Street, Northampton, with registration from 10am and singing starting at 10.30am. Importantly, the NPC Come & Sing day is open to everyone, from experienced choral singers to complete newcomers who simply enjoy singing.
Led by musical director Tom Moore, participants will be guided through rehearsals across the day, exploring Jenkins’ best-known choral composition in a relaxed but well-structured setting. Moore will work closely with singers to develop confidence, musicality and ensemble sound, making the NPC Come & Sing accessible regardless of prior experience.

No preparation is required and all music will be provided on the day. However, those already familiar with The Armed Man may find it helpful. Tea, coffee and cake will be available, although attendees are asked to bring their own lunch.
Founded in 1896, Northampton Philharmonic Choir is one of the town’s longest-established musical organisations. Over more than a century, the choir has built a strong reputation for high-quality performances while maintaining an inclusive approach to welcoming new voices. Previous NPC Come & Sing days have proved popular locally, often attracting singers who later go on to join the choir permanently.
Although there will be no public performance at the end of the day, the event also acts as a pathway for those interested in becoming regular members. Singers who enjoy the experience will be invited to attend future rehearsals and may choose to take part in a full concert performance of The Armed Man on Saturday 21 March at St Matthew’s Church, Northampton.
Tickets for the NPC Come & Sing event, which include music hire, are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for under-30s. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the choir’s website or on the door, subject to availability.
For Northampton residents looking to reconnect with singing, meet like-minded music lovers or experience a major choral work in a supportive environment, the NPC Come & Sing day offers a welcoming entry point into one of the area’s most established choirs.
