Northampton High School Celebrates Record-Breaking A Level Results

Posted 15th August 2024

The Hardingstone-based Northampton High School is celebrating an exceptional set of A Level results for Summer 2024, marking one of the strongest performances in the school’s recent history. This year’s achievements further solidify the school’s accelerating academic momentum and underscore the courage and perseverance demonstrated by the 2024 leavers.

Head of Northampton High School GDST, Dr. May Lee, proudly shared, “This year’s cohort is among the strongest we have seen at Northampton High School in recent years. Not only did 17% of all grades achieve A*, a significant increase from previous years, but over 42% of grades were A*-A, and 68% were A*-B. We have also seen some outstanding individual performances, with nearly 30% of the cohort earning three or more A* and A grades. It has been wonderful to witness the joy on their faces as they opened their results today.”

Dr. Lee continued, “The Year 13 students have been truly inspirational, leading the school with extraordinary energy, commitment, and compassion. While today’s results will open many doors for them, what matters most is the character of the individuals stepping through those doors. Throughout their time here, they have championed one another and our school. It is immensely rewarding for all of us who have supported and inspired these pupils through their studies to see their achievements. My sincere thanks go to our exceptionally dedicated teachers, whose commitment has been crucial to making these excellent results possible. The stability and focus provided by our all-round education and our girls-first philosophy have truly paved the way for these successes.”

As a school committed to encouraging students to pursue careers in fields where women have been historically underrepresented, Northampton High is particularly proud of the exceptional results in A Level mathematics, where 75% of students achieved A*/A grades, and in physics, where 71% reached the same level of excellence. The humanities and language departments also shone brightly this year, with over 80% of grades in History at A*/A and an impressive 100% in French.

Students have secured places at many of the UK’s top universities, including Cambridge, Nottingham, St Andrews, Birmingham, and Warwick. Reflecting the school’s emphasis on intellectual curiosity and academic enrichment, students are embarking on a diverse range of undergraduate courses, from Children’s Nursing and Computer Games Development to Counter Terrorism and Cybercrime, alongside more traditional subjects such as English Literature, Economics, Law, and Mathematics.

This achievement is a testament to the hard work and determination that embody the fearless and unmissable spirit of Northampton High, shared by its students, parents, and staff alike.

Additionally, a number of students are embarking on exciting new adventures, whether by taking up art foundation courses or pursuing gap years, further illustrating the rich and diverse community fostered at Northampton High, where individuals are always encouraged to follow their unique paths.

Dr. Lee concluded, “Results days are never just about percentages; they are about celebrating the individual successes of each and every one of our students. With their tremendous breadth of interests and depth of talent, we are confident that this cohort will go on to make a truly positive impact. We wish them every success and are certain that the journey ahead will be both fulfilling and exciting for each of them.”
