If you’ve ever belted out I Would Do Anything for Love in the shower (no shame here), or played Bat Out of Hell at full blast while pretending your hairbrush was a microphone, then September is about to get a whole lot louder for you.
From Monday 15 to Saturday 20 September, Royal & Derngate will transform into a high-octane, rock ’n’ roll dreamscape as Bat Out of Hell – The Musical screeches into town for the final stop of its UK tour. And trust us — you’ll want to be there when the engines roar.
This isn’t just any jukebox musical. Oh no. This is the award-winning, critics-and-fans-can’t-stop-talking-about-it, Jim Steinman-and-Meat Loaf-powered spectacle that’s already wowed Manchester, the London Coliseum, Dominion Theatre, and international crowds. We’re talking Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical at the Evening Standard Awards, plus eight WhatsOnStage Award nominations. Not bad for a show built around an album that’s sold over 68 million copies worldwide.
The plot? Imagine Romeo and Juliet… but with more leather jackets, bigger hair, and a soundtrack that could blow the roof off. As the Lost boys and girls flee into the city’s underground tunnels, teenage Raven — daughter of ruler Falco — locks eyes with Strat, the fearless, immortal leader of the Lost. Cue an all-consuming love story that threatens to tear their worlds apart, all while iconic hits like You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, and, of course, Bat Out of Hell shake the stage. There’s even a previously unreleased gem — What Part of My Body Hurts the Most.
Returning to the cast are Glenn Adamson (Strat), Katie Tonkinson (Raven), Rob Fowler (Falco) and Sharon Sexton (Sloane), joined by Georgia Bradshaw (Zahara), Ryan Carter (Jagwire), Carla Bertran (Tink), Luke Street (Ledoux) and Carly Burns (Valkyrie). Certain performances will see Luke Street, Joshua Dever, Beth Woodcock and Reece Duncan step into lead roles.
This reimagined production — inspired by the spectacular arena tour of Australia and New Zealand — comes turbocharged with an on-stage eight-piece rock band, sprawling multi-level sets, and enough energy to power half of Northamptonshire.
Shows run 7.30pm nightly, with 2.30pm matinees on Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets start at £17* from the Box Office on 01604 624811 or at royalandderngate.co.uk/bat-out-of-hell.
