Exceptional Students Honoured at Northampton College Awards Evening
Posted 8th July 2025
A host of inspirational students from Northampton College have been recognised for their remarkable achievements at a celebratory awards ceremony held on Thursday, 3 July at the Booth Lane campus.
The annual event shone a spotlight on learners who have demonstrated exceptional progress both academically and personally over the past 12 months.
Among the evening’s standout moments was the presentation of the Overcoming Challenges Award to blind music student Logan Jewell, whose unwavering positivity and musical talent have seen him take to the stage at The Roadmender — fulfilling a long-held dream.
Megan Roberts was named recipient of the Change Maker Award, acknowledging her passion for sustainability. Megan led a team to success in an inter-college competition exploring the impact of overconsumption in Northamptonshire. She also launched a pop-up clothing exchange on campus, with plans to roll it out to the wider community.
Rising culinary star Bella McCue was awarded the Jeff Whittaker Award in recognition of her development on the college’s culinary arts programme. Bella has shown exceptional promise as a pastry chef and will now enjoy a week’s placement in the kitchens of Harrods.
Meanwhile, Ben Poole received the Katy Wright Award. After a period away from mainstream education and a diagnosis of ADHD, Ben has flourished at Northampton College — achieving top grades and securing a place to study aerospace engineering at university.
The evening also included a vibrant performance of West End favourites by musical theatre students, while catering and hospitality students supported the event by preparing and serving food, and welcoming guests.
Vice Principal Jan Hutt said: “Our students continue to amaze us with their determination, creativity and resilience. The awards are a moment to celebrate their efforts and accomplishments, which are truly inspiring. It’s easy to overlook progress when you see it unfolding daily, but these young people are growing into confident, capable individuals who will go on to make a real difference.”
This year’s awards were supported by a number of local organisations, including Northampton Town Centre BID, NME Electrical Services, The Lewis Foundation, DSV Logistics, Sytner Jaguar Land Rover, Festo, Smurfit Westrock, i2 Analytical, Grosvenor Decorating Supplies, Elsby & Co, Vintage Guru, and Jeff’s Way.
